HUSSON -- With just twelve days left in the regular season and 19 games down and six to play, the Husson women’s basketball team are looking for their third consecutive North Atlantic Conference championship. The Eagles stand at 10-9 overall and 10-3 in conference in third place.
Going into the season, the Eagles were picked to finish second in a poll conducted by all the leagues coaches, a poll most teams do not even pay attention too. Â Â Â
“We are probably right where everyone thought we would be in terms of all the teams outside of Husson,” said Kissy Walker women’s head basketball coach. Â
Walker had very high expectations for this year’s team.
Walker stated, “Fighting for the North Atlantic Conference championship, but they’re always question marks such as scoring and who steps up at the right time.”
Kissy Walker’s club strengths are from the three-point line and the free throw line. The Eagles are shooting 34 percent from deep this season and at one time they were ranked number one in the nation in all of division three. Senior guard  Marissa Albert leads the team in three-point shooting with 42 percent and has made 34 out of the team’s 96 three-pointers made.
The lady Eagles are shooting 71 percent from the charity stripe and four players are over the team average from the line. Kelli Murray is at 96 percent, Amanda Gifford 77 percent, Marissa Albert 87 percent, and Brianna Hanscom 73 percent.
“This season is one of the best free-throw shooting teams I have had in many years,” said Walker.
Despite all the success and positives they’re are aspects of the game the Eagles need to improve on if they want to compete for the NAC championship again this year.
Walker says, “We need to do a lot better job rebounding we only average about 31 rebounds a game and need to get more second chance opportunities on offense.
“When competing for a championship it comes down to who’s playing well and who wants it.”
