BANGOR -- Maine is one of the hardest states to predict the weather forecast. Chief Meterologist Todd Simcox at WABI-TV Five in Bangor talks about why this year we have had less snow then in past years.
“This year is more of a La Nina year, and La Nina being cooler temperatures in the Eastern Pacific. And when we get into La Nina years it typically sends storm track further north and so it stays north of us, which allows the warm weather to come in to New England. When we do get storms we get more snow, mix and rain in like many of our storms we have seen this winter.
The Bangor area has only received three feet of snow this year. Simcox talks about the possibility of getting a big snow storm.
“Really tough to say exactly what is going to happen, but my thinking is were probably not going to see much in terms of big snowstorms. You might get some occasional light snow things like that we have seen this winter. Right now I just have a hard time believing were going to have that major blockbuster dumping of snow we have been missing out on this winter.
Kids who think school is going to be cancelled your out of luck. Maybe next year.
